Volunteering at Charlotte’s Urban Ministry

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving, it feels appropriate to share an experience several members of the Sherpa team had last Friday.  Organized by Sherpa’s Kelli Scales and Ashley Brueckner, our team volunteered at Urban Ministry, a Charlotte area outreach organization providing vital services to the homeless.  Specifically, our team participated in Urban Ministry’s daily Soup Kitchen operation, which has been in continuous daily operation since 1979, making it it the largest, oldest Charlotte soup kitchen and the only one that serves a hot, nutritious lunch 365 days a year, with no questions asked.  Our Sherpa’s had the pleasure of working alongside other volunteers and serving others.

As an organization, Urban Ministry depends on the efforts of countless volunteers.  The Soup Kitchen is just one area of opportunity when it comes to giving back through this wonderful organization.  Of the experience, Randy Gartz, a manager on our IT team noted, “it was clear to me how thankful every person was that others came to serve them a much needed meal in a warm room.”  Going into the holidays and the colder season ahead, consider seeking out opportunities to give back, either through Urban Ministry or through any of the other wonderful charitable organizations we are fortunate to have represented in the Queen City.  To learn more about Urban Ministry and to volunteer/donate, visit them online at http://www.urbanministrycenter.org/.
